Why are Kalabaka and Meteora inseparable?

It is impossible to visit Meteora in one day. It takes at least two. And here comes Kalabaka, which lives off Meteora and is just like a younger brother who never comes out of the shadows. A small place next to, better said, below Meteora…

The road to Meteora is great. The locals ironed it out nicely.

Many buses with tourists pass here. Sometimes you have to unplug your ears by eating chewing gum or arguing with everyone in the car.

Far from being ugly, on the contrary, Kalabaka is necessary and very useful, especially when you realize that you do not have enough time for everything you have planned.

When we were making an itinerary for this part of the world, Kalambaka was not in our plan. However, the plans are one thing and the reality is quite another, it was getting dark, so we had to look for accommodation.

Under normal circumstances, everything is full here, but thanks to Kovid, we found a nice hotel with everything we need.

This is what I call the hotel’s welcome ramp. Thanks to Kovid, there were empty rooms, otherwise I believe that everything is full in the season.

The hotel has an elevator and a bathroom that I have to praise.

This is how it is done, it is not complicated and difficult, and it does not bother walkers either.

It’s nice to wake up in Kalabaka with this view.

If you want to make the most of your stay, you have to do your homework in the room in the evening. This map is your scripture you have in every hotel and on every corner. Study it carefully so you don’t wander tomorrow.

Once we have found accommodation, it is time to take care of the second item, which is food. In Kalabaka you can eat whatever you like, the whole town is turned to tourism. Here is a pie with leek that is an absolute MUST.

Good wine is also drunk in Kalabaka, we received a recommendation to try this and it was really nice.

When you are in Greece, eat like a Greek. It can’t get any better than this. The picture also shows moussaka, lamb and souvlaki as the main dish.

We got dessert for free and it was delicious.

Kalambaka is beautiful during the day, but it is even more beautiful at night because the locals made an effort to light the Meteora, which makes them look even more spectacular. Especially when you have the thought in your head that you are up there tomorrow.

Walking through Kalabaka is not boring.

Kalabaka has about 15,000 inhabitants and is not a small town at all. She is very lively day and night.

It has one main street and I could move there without any problems. All the hotels are mostly there and you will easily find them on the map.

The souvenir from Kalabaka that you have to bring besides magnets and similar trinkets is also black incense, which is characteristic of these parts and smells very nice.

I love when I expect nothing and be pleasantly surprised. I had a great time in Kalabaka, I think I did everything I could. Next in line are the Meteora.
